Bar Thoughts

About Me Brett Barker

I am a London/Essex based artist. I draw my inspiration from all that is around me.
I find the idea of creating art is to be free, to interpret, express and transform.
I paint with various mediums, exploring textures and layering of paint in order to create a depth
On the canvas.
Although mainly a landscape artist, I am also keen on storytelling through art as well as expressing mood through abstraction.

                                                                                     Painters Block by Brett Barker

Stood up The Painter, sat, stood, sat, stood once more, stretched out his arms, paced the floor, boiled a kettle, retied his smock, stared out the window at a barking dog. Sat down again, fidgeted until comfortable.

Adjusted those brushes, tubes, papers, jars of liquids, familiar friends, familiar smells, radios muted. The canvas large .Piercing white, oh this morning snow. So white he winced, daring him to show, it called, no screamed “not today”. He sipped his coffee. In control.  Heard a knocking at the window. Stood, but no. sat down again. Fidgeted until comfortable.

With his largest brush, tainted and dripping by the mixed forest hues, he cut across the sheet with such force the framework confused. Shuddered and fell like a boxer bemused. He carried on into the late afternoon. Thrusting and slicing, peppering the room. This will take some clearing up he thought.

That next day he awoke early, exhausted, drank his coffee .Snow had settled on the ivy clad wall.

He admired the canvases new fresh coat , whilst he fidgeted until comfortable.
